Chinese President Xi Jinping has completed a high-profile state visit to Washington to meet with US President Donald Trump. Despite red carpets, lavish dinners, and warm words between the leaders, the summit brought little political success.

The two countries agreed to a brief two-month extension of a trade truce with lower tariffs; however, disputes remain regarding AI governance, trade, and Taiwan. Beijing stated that US military aid to Taiwan is an absolute red line. The visit was also marked by controversies: major news networks were temporarily banned from live White House coverage, and an official photograph of the leaders appeared to be edited using AI. However, China offered a gesture of goodwill by gifting two giant pandas to an Atlanta zoo.

Experts note that while the visit stabilized communications between the world’s two largest superpowers, the true test of the relationship will depend on whether key trade and security issues are successfully resolved early next year.
