Hackers attack French supermarkets – level 1

19-10-2026 15:00

Hackers attack big supermarkets in France. They use computers to make store fridges very hot. Because of the heat, a lot of meat, milk, and food goes bad. Workers must throw it away. Some stores are even on fire.

The hackers break into an old software system. This system controls the fridges. Many stores lose a lot of money. They must turn off their machines to be safe.

The French government is now looking for the people who do this bad thing. People are worried. They see that computer systems can be easy to break.

Difficult words: fridge (a large appliance which keeps food fresh and cold), heat (when something is hot), turn off (to stop a machine or light).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

Why did workers have to throw away meat, milk, and other food?
