Israel’s election and Iran – level 2

23-10-2026 15:00

The ongoing war with Iran is the main topic in the upcoming Israeli elections. Most Israeli voters want attacks against Iran to continue. Opposition parties strongly criticize Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for not winning.

Opposition leaders warn that Iran still holds dangerous amounts of uranium which could quickly be turned into nuclear weapons. Other politicians propose bombing Iran’s energy facilities to destroy its economy and overthrow the government.

Although politicians agree that Iran is an enemy, they fear Netanyahu may restart military strikes right before election day to get votes or delay the election process. They argue that winning the election is the priority, while future military steps should wait until a new leader is in place.

Difficult words: upcoming (happening in the near future), overthrow (to remove a leader of government by force), priority (something more important than other things).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

Why do opposition leaders argue that future military steps against Iran should wait until a new leader is in place?
