3D-printed Mars house – level 2

17-04-2023 15:00

NASA has plans to send astronauts to Mars soon, but before that, they will study the effects of isolation on the crew.

The four-member crew will spend a year living in a simulated 3D-printed habitat, and experts will check the impact on their health and skills. The crew will only have a limited amount of water, and they will need to grow their own vegetables inside the habitat. The experiment will also check the mental health and social skills of the crew as they live close together for a long time.

NASA plans to announce the crew members this summer. Experts expect that the mission will take place in the 2030s.

Difficult words: isolation (staying away from other people), simulated (made to look like something else), habitat (a natural home of an animal, plant, or other organisms).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What challenges and difficulties do experts expect the crew to experience living together in a confined environment, and how could they best address them?
