Michael lives in New York. He loves birds, mainly pigeons. Life in a big city is hard for pigeons. They have no food, and there are many cars.

Sometimes, hair or string gets around a bird’s foot. This hurts the bird very much. Michael finds these birds and helps them. He cuts the string with scissors. Then the bird can fly and be happy again. Some birds are very sick, so they go to an animal doctor.

Michael says that we must be kind to animals. It is a very good thing to help a small bird stay alive.

Difficult words: pigeon (a grey bird which lives in cities and parks), string (a long, thin piece of material), scissors (a tool which we use to cut paper, cloth, or string).
