A new star – level 2

04-02-2022 15:00

In 2018, a student saw an unusual object through a telescope in Western Australia. The object seemed to switch on and off every 18 minutes.

Scientists found out that the object was a new kind of a neutron star. It was very dense and it was different from any other stars that scientists understood. They thought that such a star existed, but they never expected to find it. The star was very bright, which surprised everyone. Scientists thought that this kind of star could not be seen.

At the moment, scientists do not know of any star like this one. If they find more, they will help them get more information about neutron stars that we can see.

Difficult words: telescope (a machine that helps you see very far away), neutron star (a very small and heavy star), dense (when there is a lot of material or things in a very small place).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
