A strange problem at the Olympics – level 2
10-02-2026 15:00
The 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy began with a strange problem in ski jumping.
Anti-doping officials are checking athletes because some may inject substances into their genitals. They do this to change their body shape for a short time and hope it helps them jump farther.
In ski jumping, small changes in shape matter a lot because they affect air flow and balance. Studies show that even a tiny change can make the jump several meters longer. This can change competition results.
Ski jumping had cheating problems before, especially when athletes changed their suits. Officials are now worried because injections are much harder to find and control, which could harm trust in the Olympics.
Difficult words: anti-doping (rules and checks which stop athletes from using illegal drugs to win), genitals (parts of the body used for sex or reproduction), balance (when you are steady and not falling).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What impact can even a tiny change in an athlete’s body shape have on ski jumping results?
