Amazon and US tariffs – level 1
02-05-2025 15:00
Amazon says that it will not show extra costs from tariffs on its website.
Before that, a news story says that Amazon wants to show how much prices go up because of tariffs. The White House gets angry. Amazon says this is not true. The company only talks about this idea for its small shop called Haul. But it will not happen.
Amazon’s value goes down after the news. Then it goes back up. Trump talks to Jeff Bezos. Trump says that Bezos does the right thing. Some people want shops to show the full price with tariffs.
Trump wants people to buy more US things, not from China. He makes new rules. Now, it is harder to buy cheap things from China.
Difficult words: tariff (a tax on things from other countries), value (how much something is worth).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What is the name of the small shop for which Amazon considered displaying tariff-driven price increases?
