Buddhist monks come to Washington

Nineteen monks walk across the United States for 108 days.

They start in Texas and go to Washington. They walk more than 3,700 kilometres. They talk about peace and a calm mind. Many people watch them online and meet them on the road. The monks wear orange clothes and have a dog.

Many people wait for them in Washington. About 3,500 people sit very quietly in a big hall. During the walk, a big car hits their car. Two monks get hurt. One monk loses his leg. Later, he comes back in a wheelchair.

The monks teach meditation. They ask people to live in peace every day. The number 108 is special in Buddhism.

Difficult words: peace (a state with no war or fight), hall (a large room), wheelchair (a chair for a person who cannot walk).
