Canada puts tariffs on US products – level 1

05-02-2025 07:00

Canada will put 25% tariffs on US products. Canada’s Prime Minister does it because the US President adds tariffs on products from Canada and Mexico.

Trump also puts a 10% tariff on products from China. He says that Canada and Mexico do not stop illegal immigration and drugs. That is why he puts tariffs on products from these countries. Canada’s Prime Minister wants to talk with Trump. Trump does not answer. Experts say that these tariffs could hurt both countries.

Mexico also plans to put tariffs on US products. Mexico’s president says that the US is not fair. Trump should solve their own drug problems. Some parts of Canada will make tariffs higher for US trucks. They take away US products from shops.

Difficult words: tariff (a tax on things from another country), Prime Minister (the boss of a government), immigration (when people come into a foreign country to live there).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What is the reason given by the US President for imposing tariffs on products from Canada and Mexico?
