Clearing landmines in Syria – level 1
21-04-2025 15:00
Syria has many bombs in the ground. They stay there after 14 years of war. They are still dangerous. People can die.
A group called HALO Trust helps clean the land. They work in a town called Sarak. The job is slow and difficult. Some people go home before it is safe. Some people pay other workers to clear the land. These workers are not safe. They do not have enough training. They sometimes die.
HALO Trust wants more people and more tools. They also help people learn what is safe. Some workers lose a leg or an arm, but they still help. Many people and animals are not safe because bombs are still there.
Difficult words: dangerous (not safe), training (learning how to do things), tool (an instrument you use for doing a task).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
How do the hazardous conditions in Sarak impact the workers clearing bombs, and what steps does HALO Trust take to address these challenges?
