Crocs are cool again – level 3
14-04-2025 07:00
Crocs became popular in the early 2000s but lost attention after the Great Recession. The company struggled for years; however, things started to change when it focused on personalization through charms called Jibbitz.
These small accessories became a big success, helping the brand grow again. By 2024, Crocs had sales of over 4 billion dollars, including their second brand, Hey Dude. The company also gained attention with clever marketing, celebrity partnerships, and creative product designs. Another reason for the brand’s comeback was its new strategy of limited releases and collaborations with famous names. This helped Crocs stay exciting and fashionable. The CEO also helped bring focus back to the classic clog, which became a symbol of self-expression. The pandemic boosted sales as more people wanted comfortable footwear.
Despite the success, Crocs faces challenges. Tariffs on Vietnamese imports could increase costs. Also, the Hey Dude brand caused legal trouble, and sales dropped. Still, Crocs hopes to grow globally, especially in Asia, by staying trendy and reaching more customers.
Difficult words: personalization (making something special for each person), limited release (when a company makes only a small number of a product to make people want it more), clog (a type of shoe that is easy to wear and often has a thick sole).
