Farmers cannot sell their cocoa – level 1

26-01-2026 15:00

Ivory Coast plans to buy cocoa from farmers. The farmers cannot sell it. The government wants farmers to get money while cocoa prices go down. Cocoa is very important for the country and for many families.

Chocolate companies use less cocoa. A lot of cocoa stays in storage. The government works with local buyers. They collect and buy it. Leaders say that this plan helps farmers.

Ivory Coast grows more cocoa than any other country. Many people work with cocoa to have money. Prices are low now. The government must look after farmers and their jobs.

Difficult words: price (how much something costs), storage (a place where you keep things), buyer (a person or company which buys something).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

How is the government helping farmers earn money during the current decline in cocoa prices?
