Fiji’s First Medal – level 1

19-08-2016 07:00

Fiji is an island. It is in the Pacific Ocean. It is not big. It wins its first Olympic Medal.

The Fiji rugby team wins. The team does a great job. The players beat Great Britain 43-7. Fiji’s prime minister declares a public holiday.

Many people come to bars, shopping centres and the national stadium. They watch the match. They are very, very happy when the team wins.

The rugby team has a British coach. He is very happy, too.

Difficult words:  declare  (officially say that something is now true),  public holiday  (a country’s special day when people do not work),  match  (a game of rugby).

You can read the original story and watch the video in the Level 3 section.

How many Olympic Medals has your country won?
