Football players have breaks to drink – level 1

14-07-2026 07:00

Is drinking water during a football game enough when the weather is very hot? Scientists do a test with professional players. They give players a short three-minute break in the game.

The test shows that players need more than just water. They need active cooling. This means that they must drink very cold water and put cold towels on their necks. This helps the body stay cool, and the heart beat normally. It also makes the players feel good.

Now, scientists want to do more tests with football clothes. They want to find a safe rule so that players do not get sick in the hot sun.

Difficult words: professional (when you do a sport as a job, not for fun), towel (a piece of soft cloth that you use for drying your body after a shower), rule (an official statement of what you must or must not do).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What two active cooling methods did the test show help players stay cool and keep their heartbeats normal?
