French students protest – level 1

09-10-2026 15:00

Thousands of students and teachers in France are protesting today. They are angry because high school buildings are old, dirty, and broken. Many classes are full, and there are not enough teachers.

The protests start near Paris and are now everywhere in the country. Sadly, some protests become violent. People burn bins and break school doors. Police must stop them. Thousands of people go to prison, and some people get hurt.

Leaders say that these protests will not help schools. France is voting for a new president in six months. It is a big problem for many people. They are worried about their schools.

Difficult words: dirty (not clean), violent (when someone uses force to hurt people or break things), vote (when people choose a new leader or someone for an important job).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What specific problems with high schools are mentioned as causes of the protests?
