Fuel from cooking oil – level 1

20-01-2025 15:00

Spain is turning used cooking oil into cleaner airplane fuel. This will reduce emissions and help the natural world.

People can leave leftover frying oil at gas stations. Factories called refineries turn it into biofuel. This fuel is cleaner than usual airplane fuel. It works well in engines.

Spain plans to use more biofuel by 2030. The European Union is preparing new rules to help this change. New factories will produce more biofuel from cooking oil. Spain is already building more of them. Biofuel is expensive now. But when there is more of it, it will get cheaper.

Difficult words: leftover (what remains after you use everything else), biofuel (fuel from plants or waste), engine (a machine which makes a vehicle move).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What are the steps Spain is taking to increase the use of biofuel by 2030 and how will this impact the cost of biofuel?
