George Floyd five years later – level 2
21-05-2025 07:00
Five years after George Floyd died, people want to know if things got better.
Marc Morial from the National Urban League says some good things happened, but now they are in danger. The government stopped all civil rights work, which is a problem. After Floyd’s death, many protests called for changes. Some companies keep helping diversity, but some stopped. Morial says diversity means giving everyone a chance to get a job or go to school. Police get more training, but still need to do better. Police now help with more problems like family fights and health issues.
The work for justice doesn’t end. Some cities and states work on changes because the national government is slow. Morial wants tax laws that help people who earn less money.
Difficult words: civil rights (when all people are treated the same and fair), diversity (different kinds of people), justice (fairness).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What additional kinds of problems are police now helping to address beyond traditional crime?
