Good Night, and Good Luck – level 2
09-04-2025 07:00
The Broadway show Good Night, and Good Luck made over 3.3 million dollars in one week. It stars George Clooney, a famous actor, and it is his first time acting on Broadway.
The story is about a journalist named Edward R. Murrow. He spoke out against a US senator named Joseph McCarthy in the 1950s. McCarthy said many people were communists, but he didn’t have real proof. Murrow used TV news to show that these people were not guilty. He showed the public that McCarthy was unfair and mean.
The play is based on a movie from 2005. It also talks about today’s world, where the media and politics are sometimes in conflict. It reminds people how important it is to tell the truth and protect freedom.
Difficult words: proof (facts which show that something is true), guilty (when someone did something wrong or illegal and is responsible for it), based on (when a story or idea uses something else as its main idea).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
How did Edward R. Murrow challenge Joseph McCarthy's unproven accusations, and what connection does his approach have with modern concerns over media and political conflicts?
