Hungary and Slovakia do not send fuel to Ukraine – level 2
25-02-2026 07:00
Hungary and Slovakia stopped sending diesel to Ukraine because the Druzhba pipeline was broken. They said Ukraine didn’t fix it, and this is a political decision.
Hungary said Ukraine tried to use oil to affect politics. The Russian attack caused the damage at the end of January. Both countries said they have enough fuel for their people and want to keep diesel at home. Slovakia also used oil from emergency storage. Hungary and Slovakia asked the European Commission to move Russian oil through Croatia, but Croatia said it may break US rules. The Commission said energy safety is not a problem.
Ukraine has serious energy problems because Russian attacks broke its systems during winter, and stopping diesel makes it worse.
Difficult words: diesel (fuel used in cars, trucks, or machines), pipeline (a long tube that moves oil or gas from one place to another), emergency storage (a place where things are stored for urgent situations).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What concern did Croatia raise about routing Russian oil through its territory?
