Israel Eurovision song – level 1

27-02-2024 07:00

Israel may leave Eurovision. There is a problem with its song.

Eden Golan sings the song called ‘October Rain’. Some people believe that the song is about the Gaza conflict. Eurovision has strict rules. The rules say no politics in songs. Eurovision is checking the song. There are things like ‘Boys Don’t Cry’ or ‘Flowers’ in the song. Soldiers sometimes use the word ‘flowers’ when they speak about dead people.

Other countries get in trouble for political songs before. Singers want to use Eurovision for political messages. It is not a new thing. But Israel says that the song is okay.

Difficult words: conflict (a fight), rule (a thing you must or must not do).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What is the controversy surrounding Eden Golan's song 'October Rain' in relation to the Eurovision song contest and why is it causing concern for Israel?
