Italy’s famous mini truck – level 3
14-02-2025 15:00
The APE, a three-wheeled mini truck, has been a beloved vehicle in Italy for decades. However, production at the factory in Tuscany ended in December 2024, leaving collectors and fans heartbroken.
Many Italians have fond memories of the APE, including Crescenzo Langella, who even took it on his honeymoon. He describes driving it as a comforting experience, like being hugged by a loved one.
Since its launch in 1948, the APE became a symbol of Italy’s economic growth, used by traders, farmers, and fishers. Enthusiasts like Crescenzo, who owns over 70 APE vehicles, are working to preserve them. He has set up a workshop near Milan to maintain these classic mini trucks.
Although Italy’s passion for the APE has declined, production will continue in India, including an electric model. Some Italians feel betrayed by this change, but fans remain dedicated. Crescenzo, for example, is so devoted to the APE that he has arranged to be buried in one.
Difficult words: fond (loving, caring), preserve (to keep something as it is), betrayed (felt abandoned or wronged).
