Midwives help Mexican migrants – level 2

20-01-2025 07:00

Pregnant migrants traveling to the US are getting help from midwives in Mexico. These volunteers work in shelters and camps and give health checks, massages, and ultrasounds. They also help mothers get other medical care when needed.

One mother stopped her trip because she was close to giving birth. She gets check-ups every two weeks and says the midwives make her feel safe. Many pregnant women risk attacks and dangerous situations.

The midwives give clothes, shelter, and advice to help mothers and babies stay healthy. They also feel connected to the women who make them feel stronger. This care gives hope to pregnant women on a hard journey.

Difficult words: midwife (a person who helps a woman during pregnancy and birth), volunteer (a person who works for an organization without getting money for their work), check-up (a medical examination to test if you are healthy).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What kind of assistance do the midwives in Mexico provide to pregnant migrants traveling to the US?
