New Law in Vietnam – level 1

04-01-2019 07:00

In Vietnam, there is a new law. It starts this year. It affects tech companies.

Facebook must have user information on servers in Vietnam. If the Vietnamese government wants information from Facebook, Facebook must give the information. If the government wants to delete something from Facebook, Facebook must delete it.

The Vietnamese government says that the law protects people’s information. It also says that this can fight cybercrime.

Some people criticise the new law. They say that it is not good for free speech. They also say that it gives the government too much power.

It is interesting that the American government writes to Facebook and to Google. It asks them not to comply to the new law.

Difficult words: affect (changes, makes them make changes), government (the ‘bosses’ of a country), comply (follow a rule).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
