New rules for Ukrainian men in Europe – level 2

30-06-2026 15:00

The European Commission wants to change the rules for Ukrainian refugees.

They plan to continue the special protection program until March 2028. But new Ukrainian men aged 23 to 60 will not get this protection if they must serve in the military.

Kyiv and some EU countries support this plan because Ukraine needs more soldiers to defend the country. This new rule is only for future refugees; men who already have protection in the EU will keep their documents and can stay.

For this plan to start, a large majority of EU countries must vote for it. At the same time, Denmark is making a similar rule, and the EU is also planning a program to help refugees who want to return home.

Difficult words: refugee (a person who must run away from their home country because it is dangerous there due to war or a disaster), protection (the state of being kept safe from danger, bad weather, war, or anything that can hurt you), majority (a number or a group of people that is more than half of the total number of people in a room or a country).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

Which new Ukrainian men will not receive special protection if they are required to serve in the military?
