Nigeria floods – level 1

04-06-2025 07:00

Heavy rain causes big floods in the market town of Mokwa, Nigeria. Many people die. Water destroys many homes.

The water is very high, and people lose everything. They do not have food, clothes, and homes. More than 150 people die, and many more have no place to sleep now. The army and rescue workers are helping. Some people are still missing. People are scared. They need food, water, and a safe place to stay. Some help comes, but it is not enough yet. Many people are still waiting for help.

The rain is part of the rainy season, but now the storms are worse. Scientists say that this is because of climate change.

Difficult words: flood (a lot of water in streets and homes), destroy (to damage something so badly that you cannot use it anymore), rescue worker (a person whose job is to save someone from danger), rainy season (the time of year when a lot of rain falls in some tropical regions of the world).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What do scientists identify as the cause of the storms becoming more severe this rainy season?
