Pancake Week in Russia – level 2

16-02-2018 15:00

Russians celebrate Pancake Week every year. The warm, round pancake symbolises the sun, and people use it to welcome spring. They traditionally serve it with honey and jam.

The holiday comes from an old religion, and now, Maslenitsa is a festival and national holiday. It marks the end of winter. People believe that the more people that join the celebration, the sooner spring will come.

Difficult words: traditionally (the way people have done something for a long time; typically), mark (celebrate).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
