Polar bear dip world record – level 1

10-03-2025 15:00

On March 1, 2025, many people swim in cold water in the Czech Republic. There are 2,461 swimmers. This is the biggest polar bear dip ever. Before this, the record is 1,799 people in Poland. This record is from 2015.

To make a record, people must wear swimsuits, go into the water up to their waist, and stay for one minute. The water must be very cold. On this day, it is only 3.5°C!

People around the world watch this big event. The swimmers are cold but happy. Many people like to do difficult things for fun. Maybe another group will try to make a new record later.

Difficult words: polar bear dip (an outdoor swim in winter, often through ice), waist (the part of the body between the legs and chest), event (a thing which happens or takes place).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What are the conditions swimmers must meet to set a record and how many more participants were there compared to the previous record from Poland?
