Race Across Lake Baikal – level 1

Lake Baikal is in Siberia in Russia. It is the deepest lake in the world. Every year, there is a race. People race across the lake.

The route is 205 kilometres long. It is very difficult. It is –20°C. You must travel 80 kilometres a day or more. Only 2/3 of people finish the course. People can ski, skate, or ride a bike.

Difficult words: race (a sporting event where people try to win), route (the way that you must travel), course (a route).
