Russian journalist helps Ukraine – level 1

29-06-2022 07:00

Dmitri Muratov is a Russian writer. Muratov works for Novaya Gazeta. It is a newspaper.

It is independent. The government doesn’t control it. Writers can write about anything.

Then the Ukraine war starts. The Russian government stops independent newspapers and TV.

In October 2021, Muratov gets a medal. It is a Nobel peace prize. He gets this medal for his hard work. He wants all people to say and write what they think.

Last week, Muratov sells the medal at an auction. Someone buys the medal for $103.5 million.

Muratov gives the money to an organization. It helps Ukrainian children without homes.

Difficult words: medal (an award which you can wear on your neck), Nobel peace prize  (an award to make the world a safe place), auction (a place to sell things to people for the highest prices).
