Samsung boss may go to jail – level 1
In 2015, there is a merger with Samsung. The deal is worth 8 billion dollars.
Jay Y. Lee is the boss of Samsung. Some people say that he makes mistakes during the merger. He breaks the rules. He uses his power for his good. Lee says that this is not true. He explains that it is just normal management. He follows clear rules.
Prosecutors want five years in jail for Lee. The defense says that the judge does not care about some things. 106 minority shareholders speak in the case. The judge ignores what they say. The trial lasts for three years already.
Difficult words: prosecutor (a legal person who officially accuses someone of doing something bad), defense (a legal person who protects someone), minority shareholder (a person who owns a small part of a company).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What was the argument presented by Lee in defense of his handling of the merger?
