Syria’s only woman minister – level 1

09-02-2026 07:00

Hind Kabawat is a minister in Syria. She is the only woman in the new government. She asks why there are not more women in high jobs.

Syria moves from war to peace. People want change. Kabawat says that new leaders must learn and try to do better.

Kabawat lives outside Syria for many years. She comes back when the war ends. She now works for the country. She works with many women. She wants real power to help people. She says that she works for all Syrians.

She visits camps where families live in tents. Many people have no food. Bad things happen there. Some people go to prison. Kabawat thanks people for their help. She says that it is important to talk. It can make things better.

Difficult words: minister (a leader of one area in a government), peace (a time without war or fighting), power (when you can control things).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What issue does Kabawat raise regarding women’s roles in the new government?
