The doorway effect – level 1

25-09-2026 15:00

The doorway effect is a common problem with your memory. You walk into a room and forget why you are there.

This happens because your brain thinks that a new event is starting when you walk through a door. To get ready for new things, your brain clears your memory. Scientists test this in real and virtual rooms. People forget more when they go through doors or do many things at once. Changing computer tabs can do the same thing.

If you forget your goal, you can walk back to the first room or say your idea again out loud.

Difficult words: common (usual), forget (not to remember something), goal (what you plan to do or get).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

If you forget your goal after walking into another room, what two actions can help you remember it?
