The Eden Project is having problems – level 2

20-03-2026 15:00

The Eden Project is twenty-five years old. It is a very large garden in Cornwall, UK, with big glass domes. Inside these domes, there is a real rainforest with many different plants.

Millions of people go there every year to see the trees and learn about the world. The project uses hot water from under the ground to stay warm. It is a very special place for families and schools. But today, the project has some big problems. Fewer people visit the gardens now, so the company doesn’t have enough money. They had to tell many workers to leave their jobs. The leaders are sad about this, but they want to keep the dream alive. They hope that new visitors will come back soon to see the beautiful forest.

Difficult words: dome (a roof which looks like half of a ball, often seen on top of large buildings or greenhouses), rainforest (a forest in a hot part of the world where it rains a lot and many tall trees and animals live), alive (living, not dead).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What did the project have to do after fewer people visited the gardens?
