The US and Israel attack Iran – level 2

03-03-2026 07:00

The US and Israel attacked Iran. President Trump said he wanted to stop Iran from becoming a nuclear power and to protect Americans.

Iran responded by firing rockets at US military bases in Bahrain and other countries in the region. The countries stopped many rockets in the air, but some hit the ground, killed people and destroyed buildings. Israel declared a state of emergency and closed its airspace. There were explosions Iranian cities.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei died during the attacks. He led Iran since 1989. The situation follows weeks of protests and talks about Iran’s nuclear programme. Many people worry the conflict could grow larger.

Difficult words: state of emergency (a special situation when a government gives itself extra powers because of danger), airspace (the sky above a country), conflict (serious fighting or disagreement, often between countries).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

Who was Iran’s Supreme Leader who died during the attacks, and since what year had he been leading the country?
