Three years of Russia-Ukraine war – level 1
03-03-2025 07:00
Russia attacked Ukraine three years ago. Russia hopes to win quickly. But the war takes longer than everybody thinks.
The world loses a lot of money. Food and gas prices are higher. Ukraine needs a lot of money to repair its cities. Many people die. The UN says 122,000 Ukrainian people die. 3.7 million people have to leave home. About 45,000 Ukrainian soldiers die, and 390,000 are hurt. Many Russian soldiers die, too. Tanks, planes, and ships are destroyed.
Russia controls 20% of Ukraine. But many places there are broken. Russia still attacks Ukrainian cities. But they keep working. The war is not over yet.
Difficult words: repair (to make something work again), destroyed (completely broken or ruined), broken (damaged, not working well).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
How do rising prices, widespread destruction, and significant casualties challenge Ukraine’s ability to recover and continue its defense efforts?
