Volkswagen is a very big car company in Europe. But it has large problems. The boss of the company wants to close factories and cut thousands of jobs.
Making cars in Germany is now too expensive. Volkswagen is losing money in China. At the same time, Chinese car companies are selling many new cars in Europe. They now have 10% of the European market. They sell popular hybrid cars.
European leaders want to help their car companies. They are talking about new rules. They want taxes on Chinese hybrid cars. The plan is to make these companies build cars inside Europe.
Difficult words: cut (to reduce), market (a specific country, area, or group of people where a company can buy and sell its products), hybrid car (a modern car with a petrol engine and an electric motor).
