World’s oldest gorilla – level 1

17-04-2025 07:00

Fatou is a gorilla who lives at a zoo in Berlin. She is 68 years old, very old for a gorilla. Most gorillas only live to be 30 or 40.

Fatou lives at the zoo for 66 years. She comes when she is just 2 years old. She is from Africa. Her kind is called the Western Lowland Gorilla. Fatou cannot walk very well now. Her legs and arms hurt. She walks a little bent over. She does not have teeth, so she eats soft food. She gets cooked vegetables and some fruit as a treat.

The people at the zoo help her and make sure she feels good. Happy birthday, Fatou!

Difficult words: zoo (a place where animals live for people to visit), bent over (when your upper body is forward while you are standing or sitting), treat (something special what you get and it makes you happy).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What age did Fatou first come to the zoo, and how does her current age compare to that of most gorillas?
