Liverpool star dies in a car crash – level 2
08-07-2025 07:00
Diogo Jota, a football player from Liverpool, died in a car crash in Spain. His brother André died too. Their car went off the road, and the police said the tyre broke when they tried to overtake another vehicle. The car caught fire.
Jota was 28 years old. He won the Premier League and got married in June. Jota played 182 matches for Liverpool and scored 65 goals. He played for Portugal 49 times. People in Portugal and other countries said he had a great future, and his death shocked them.
Many people felt very sad, and players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Jürgen Klopp said kind things about him online. Fans left flowers outside the stadium. Flags went down to half-mast. UEFA said there will be a minute of silence before games.
Difficult words: overtake (to go past another car), shock (to upset or surprise someone suddenly), half-mast (when a flag is halfway down to show respect for someone who died).
