Liverpool star dies in a car crash – level 3
08-07-2025 07:00
Liverpool footballer Diogo Jota died in a car crash in Spain, along with his brother André. Police said the car lost control after a tyre burst during an overtaking attempt. It crashed and caught fire.
Jota was 28 and had just won the Premier League with Liverpool. He also got married in June and had three children. Jota played 182 games for Liverpool, scoring 65 goals. He also helped the team win the FA Cup and League Cup. He played for Portugal 49 times. His death shocked many people, both in Portugal and abroad, because he was still young and full of potential.
People around the world, including Cristiano Ronaldo and Jürgen Klopp, shared their sadness online. Fans brought flowers to Anfield Stadium and flags were lowered to half-mast. Jota was praised not only for being a talented player but also for being a loving father and husband. A minute of silence will be held at UEFA Women’s Euro matches in his honour.
Difficult words: potential (the possibility to grow or achieve something), half-mast (the position of a flag which is being flown some way below the top as a mark of respect for a person who has died).
