Denmark’s strict migration rules – level 1
05-12-2025 07:00
Denmark’s Minister for Immigration, Rasmus Stoklund, believes that the system for people looking for asylum in Europe is bad. He says that smugglers decide who gets in.
Denmark has very strict migration rules. It has very low numbers of asylum seekers compared to other European countries. The Minister wants a new plan to help more people in poor countries close to conflicts. He says that it is better than helping fewer people who get into Europe. Denmark keeps numbers low because it has strict rules for families. It also has a few benefits for these people. Denmark also wants to work with other EU countries to help people outside of Europe. People who do not get asylum must go home right away. These strict rules are important to keep Denmark’s people happy and safe.
Difficult words: asylum (a place where someone is safe), smuggler (a person who moves people or things illegally between countries), asylum seeker (a person who leaves a country because it is not safe to stay, and they ask to stay in another country).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What advantage does the Minister see in helping more people in poor countries near conflicts instead of granting asylum to a smaller number in Europe?
