Ukrainian boy speaks at the European Parliament – level 2

18-12-2025 07:00

A very emotional moment happened at the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

An eleven-year-old boy from Ukraine, Roman Oleksiv, spoke about losing his mother in a missile attack on a hospital. While he spoke, his interpreter became very upset and stopped for a short time.

Roman said the attack happened in July 2022, when he and his mother were together at the hospital. It was the last time he saw her. Many people died, and many others got hurt. Roman also had serious injuries and needed long medical care.

In his message, Roman asked people to stay strong and not give up. He asked leaders to help children from Ukraine. Many people in the room were upset and quiet after Roman’s words.

Difficult words: emotional (showing strong feelings), interpreter (a person who changes words from one language to another), give up (to stop trying).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What did Roman ask leaders to do for children from Ukraine?
