Ukrainian boy speaks at the European Parliament – level 3
18-12-2025 07:00
An emotional moment took place at the European Parliament in Strasbourg when an eleven-year-old boy from Ukraine spoke to leaders.
Roman Oleksiv told the story of how he lost his mother during a Russian missile attack on a hospital in the city of Vinnytsia. As he spoke, his interpreter became very upset and couldn’t continue for a moment.
Roman explained that the attack happened in July 2022, when he was with his mother at the hospital. It was the last time he saw her and said goodbye. The strike killed many people and hurt hundreds more. Roman himself suffered very serious injuries and spent a long time in hospital and recovery in another country.
At the end of his speech, Roman spoke with hope. He said that people are strong when they stand together. He asked leaders not to give up and to continue helping Ukrainian children. His words deeply moved everyone in the room.
Difficult words: emotional (showing strong feelings), recovery (the time when a person gets better after illness or injury), move (to make someone feel strong emotions, such as sadness, happiness, or care).
