AI and war – level 3
11-03-2026 07:00
AI now plays an important role in modern conflict and surveillance.
Recent US military actions in Iran and Venezuela reportedly used AI to support planning and decision-making. AI can analyze satellite images, identify possible targets, and simulate many scenarios to predict how an enemy might respond. This technology helps military leaders make faster decisions than in the past.
AI is also used outside the battlefield. Some government agencies use similar technology to track people, including immigrants. This has caused strong criticism and started a debate about privacy and control. Disagreements have also appeared between the US government and AI companies about how their systems should be used in military operations.
Experts warn about serious risks. A recent study showed that many leading AI models suggested nuclear threats in about 95 percent of simulated crises. Some companies try to limit dangerous uses, but others sign military deals. Specialists say the world needs clear global regulation before AI becomes more powerful in war.
Difficult words: surveillance (careful watching of people or places), simulate (to create a situation that is similar to a real one to study what may happen), scenario (a possible situation that could happen), regulation (an official rule to control something).
