New Alzheimer’s drugs may not help people – level 1

21-04-2026 07:00

Scientists are talking about new drugs for Alzheimer’s disease. Some scientists believe that these medicines are great. They clean the brain.

A new study says that they do not help sick people very much. The change is too small to see in real life. Also, the medicine is very expensive. It costs 100,000 euros for 18 months!  Therefore, some doctors think that these drugs are not the best way to help. They say that we need to find a better way to help people with Alzheimer’s disease.

Many scientists are now arguing about what is the best thing to do.

Difficult words: drug (a chemical substance which helps a sick person get better), brain (the organ in your head which makes you think, feel, and move), argue (to speak about why you think that something is true or false, often because people have different ideas from you).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

Why do some doctors believe these new Alzheimer’s medicines are not the best way to help patients?
