Two big earthquakes recently hit the coast of Venezuela near the capital city. Five days after the disaster, rescue workers and volunteers are still looking for people under collapsed buildings.

More than 1,700 people are dead, but the real number will be much higher because 46,000 people are still missing. In some towns, workers use special radar tools to hear people talking under the rocks. Families still have hope because of beautiful stories, like a mother and her small baby who were saved alive after days in the dark.

The searching is very difficult and slow. Many people say that the government is not telling the truth about the total number of dead people because they want to hide the bad news from the world.

Difficult words: volunteer (a person who offers to do a job or help other people without being paid for it), radar (a special electronic machine which uses radio waves to find objects or people), hide (to put something in a place where nobody can see it or find it, or to keep information secret).
