France and Spain on fire – level 2

Thousands of firefighters in France and Spain are fighting huge wildfires. More than 370,000 people had to leave their homes to stay safe during one of Europe’s largest evacuations.
In places like Bordeaux in France and Valencia in Spain, the fires burned thousands of hectares of land and destroyed many houses. Teams from other countries sent planes and helicopters to help drop water on the flames. Firefighters worked hard during cooler nights to control the blazes, but the situation is still dangerous.
Weather experts warn that a new heatwave with very high temperatures will arrive soon, which could make the fires worse. Luckily, no civilians died, but many families cannot return home yet and must stay in emergency shelters.
