First Germany-Russia meeting since 2022 – level 1

First Germany-Russia meeting since 2022

02-10-2026 07:00

Top leaders from Germany and Russia meet in New York. This is their first talk in over four years, since the start of the war in Ukraine.

The meeting is only 20 minutes long. Relations are bad. Germany says that Russia tries a drone attack on a German airport. The German leader asks Russia to stop dangerous actions in Europe. Russia says that the meeting does not change anything.

Germany still helps Ukraine, but both countries decided to talk face to face. World leaders hope that these small talks can slowly help bring peace in the future.

Difficult words: relation (how people or countries feel and act toward each other), action (what you do to achieve something), decide (to choose what to do after some thinking).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What did Germany say Russia tried to do at a German airport?
