First Germany-Russia meeting since 2022 – level 2
02-10-2026 07:00
German Foreign Minister met Russian Foreign Minister at the UN in New York. This was their first meeting since Russia invaded Ukraine over four years ago.
The talks lasted only 20 minutes and happened during a time of high tension between both countries. Germany recently accused Russia of planning a drone attack at a German airport. The German minister told Russia to stop its dangerous actions against Europe and NATO. Russia said the meeting changed nothing, and both countries disagreed on who asked for the talk.
Germany still strongly supports Ukraine with weapons and help. But this short meeting shows that leaders are starting to talk directly again as world organizations try to find peaceful solutions to end the war.
Difficult words: tension (a feeling of fear or anger between people or countries), accuse (to say that someone did something wrong, illegal, or bad), peaceful (quiet and calm).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What did Germany recently accuse Russia of planning at a German airport?
