Gen Z and money – level 3

06-10-2026 15:00

Younger generations are finding it harder than ever to reach classic adult milestones like buying a home or starting a family.
Statistics show over 70% of Gen Z have delayed these major life goals due to sky-high house prices, high rent,

and stagnant wages.

In places like the UK, buying a property now costs up to twelve times the average salary, which makes home ownership feel like a distant dream. On top of that, social media constantly exposes young people to unrealistic standards of wealth, creates unnecessary pressure, and leads to poor financial decisions.

Economic experts point out that Gen Z is projected to be less wealthy than their parents due to high interest rates and inflation. However, rather than giving up, young people are adapting, learning about personal finance, and taking to activism or public protests to demand real political change for their future.

Difficult words: milestone (an important event or stage in life or development), stagnant (not growing, changing, or developing over time), projected (expected or estimated to happen or be a certain level in the future).
